The provision of basic health facilities to all citizens is the vision of Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab. Health Insurance Cards Project is a landmark initiative in providing citizens with state of the art and affordable health services. Health Insurance Card already operational in 13 Districts of Punjab has been expanded to all 36 Districts in Punjab with an aim to facilitate 7.18 Million families across Punjab. Till date, 52,902 patients have been treated so far. The benefit package has now been enhanced to PKR. 60,000 for secondary care treatment and PKR 300,000/ for priority care treatment per family/year which can go up to PKR 180,000 for secondary care and PKR. 900,000 for priority care per family / year in case the patient requires more treatment under new built-in mechanism of excess of loss and over of loss coverage, in the scheme. Furthermore, in case a patient under treatment expires, PKR 10,000 will be paid by the insurance company as burial coverage to the family of the deceased. For the year 2018-19, a budget of PKR 4 Billion has been allocated by Government of the Punjab for execution of the health insurance programme. The first phase of the project has been inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan in Rajanpur on 22nd February, 2018.
